It was 1985, when Peter, Mark and Dennis celebrated their very first birthday. Their mom, Karin Scholtz, had baked a cake for her little ones and as they were enjoying every single bite, she snapped a picture of the triplets holding a birthday sign. Little did she know that this photo would lead to 33 years of her children coming together in every birthday to take the exact same picture. As it is wonderful to see the boys change over the yeas, the last picture is truly eye-catching. Continue reading and try not to cry when you see the last one.
Birthday #2: All About Smiles And Soccer Jerseys
In the year that followed, the triplets were more aware of their own birthday and were already waiting for their photo to be taken. Happily posing in front of the camera – and with the birthday sign hanging on the door – Karin made another reminder for the boys. Though this time there was no cake in the picture, she did dress them in matching outfits. With their shiny blond hair and yellow soccer jerseys. Their second birthday was all about smiles. However, they had not expected what awaited them in life. I’m sure this story will move everyone.
Birthday #3: The Photo Became Officially A Tradition
Wearing snoopy sweaters and sitting on the couch while holding up the birthday tag, the boys were waiting for their mom to take their third birthday picture. As the boys expected a photo to be taken, a tradition was born. From now on, the triplets would pose together on their birthday each year. There were only two requirements: there had to be a birthday sign, and the boys had to stand in the same order. Peter on the left, Mark in the middle, and Dennis on the right. What Karin didn’t know, was that the boys would keep this tradition alive for much longer than she could ever imagine…
Birthday #4: Their Personalities Started To Rise
When the boys turned 4 years old, Peter, Mark and Dennis could go to school for the first time. They were enthusiastic and soon made new friends. This time it wasn’t mom but their teacher who prepared the birthday sign and took this creative picture of the three. The difference in their personalities now became more visible. While Mark and Dennis were the energetic ones on top of the play set, Peter preferred lying down quietly – though the three of them were still holding the same beautiful smile. And that’s what makes the last photo so moving…
Birthday #5: A Struggle
As the boys were wearing their matching sweaters and holding up the birthday sign, their smiles were missing this year. Their fifth birthday was a little less fun. Karin found out this year that she was sick and had a hard time for a while now. But that didn’t mean the birthday shouldn’t be celebrated. Holding tightly to her boys’s tradition, she managed to make the cake and prepare their usual annual birthday sign. Though the boys pose, the concern can be seen in their faces.
Birthday #6: Back To Smiling
When their sixth birthday came around, Karin was feeling a lot better – and also the boys were doing great. School was going fine and they even started making friends. The brothers were proud of each other! These little things brought the smiles back to the triplets’ faces. Holding the birthday sign and wearing matched sweaters, they were excited to have their annual birthday picture taking. Are you also curious about how the lives of these three boys will turn out? Then read on.
Birthday #7: No Sweaters This Time
The cute boys quickly turned into tough guys, and for the first time their matching sweaters were changed. They had their own taste in style now and wanted to wear what they liked on their seventh birthday. For the picture however, Karin managed to get all three of them wearing matching dungarees. Holding up the birthday sign, the boys put on their smiles and posed for the camera. The boys already changed a lot, and this will even get more apparent in the next couple of years.
Birthday #8: The Last Photo In Their House
On their eighth birthday the boys added a little touch to their tradition. Though they chose to wear matching sweaters with the same patterns, they each went for a different color. Little did they know that this would be the last picture taken in their house. A month after Karin took their picture, the house burned down to the ground due to a gas leak. Everyone got out safe and unharmed, but losing the house they grew up in was a heavy blow for the triplets. The next year they would stay with the neighbor who had grown to adore the boys.
Birthday #9: New Place
For a while, the boys and their mom lived with their neighbor Wilma. She even helped Karin with the 9th birthday sign and took their picture. Though Wilma was a lovely woman with a cozy house, the boys missed the house they had lived in for all those years. A few months later the family moved out and temporarily lived in a trailer until their home was rebuilt. While it almost took a year before they could live in their home again, it was more than worth it! Their new house would bear a warm memory for years to come.
Birthday #10: Peter Couldn’t Miss The Tradition
Now that they had a new home, they added a new tradition to their annual birthday picture: posing in the garden. The boys were happy to have a place to live in again and as they turned 10 years old, they felt very mature. Peter, on the left, had saved up some money to buy a camera and wanted to use it on this special occasion since they lost the old one in the fire. He started the timer, ran back into position, and the three of them posed with the sign in their hands. Thanks to Peter’s camera they were able to take their annual birthday photo. It turned out to be a beautiful picture of the already grown boys – a picture that will be followed by many more.
Birthday #11: A Girl Took The Birthday Photo
For their 11th birthday, it wasn’t mom or the neighbor who took their picture. It was a girl; Peter’s girlfriend Eva. Peter was a quiet, polite boy who could speak well, and he was the first of the three to have a girlfriend. He and Eva would meet up after school and were very much in love. His two brothers, Dennis and Mark, were troublemakers and weren’t into girls at all. What would happen the following year, no one could have seen coming…
Birthday #12: Peter
The last year that the boys spent in elementary school was a bit less fortunate. While Mark and Dennis were happily getting ready to join high school, Peter was frequently visiting the doctor’s office. Till now, they didn’t know what was going on. Peter was sometimes away from school for days – but that was the least of Karin worries. By the time the triplets were 12 years old, she wanted to know what the problem was.
Birthday #13: Peter Separated From His Brothers
When the boys were allowed to go to high school, their parents decided that it would be best for Peter to spend another year in elementary school. Because Peter missed out on school a lot. He didn’t like to be separated from his brothers as it now happened for the first time in their lives, but he understood their decision. It was the best idea that Peter had to take it easy for another year. But his time would come…
Birthday #14: Peter Joins High School
By the time the boys reached 14, Peter was doing well. Though everything slowed down by a year, he was now allowed to join his brothers in high school. Peter had always been the smartest kid – and also in high school, he excelled. Besides that, Peter had one big advantage; he had two brothers with an extra year of experience. Brothers, who could teach him all the ‘ins and outs’ of being a student. The yearly birthday photo was set to be taken again now that the teenage brothers had reunited! I’m sure the next picture will surprise you.
Birthday #15: The Triplets Are On The Same Grade Again
Thanks to his brilliance and hard work at school, Peter skipped a grade. By the time they turned 15, Peter was in the same grade in high school as his brothers Mark and Dennis were. The triplets were finally reunited! They ended the school year with their birthday and this wonderful photo – always keeping it original by posing with their 15th birthday sign. Looking back at the rest of the pictures, this may be the last year you can call them boys…
Birthday #16: Hair Dye Made Their 16th Birthday Photo Unique
The year 2000 came and the triplets reached the age of 16. You can see it in their faces: the boys from before now turned into real men. And there was something else the boys decided to bring in new to their annual birthday picture. While Peter on the left dyed his hair red and Mark in the middle went for black, Dennis on the right didn’t bother with this new stuff. All in all, it was a great year – especially for Peter. He met Suzan who agreed to be his girlfriend. She stayed with him no matter what. Thats exactly why she’d get so emotional whenever she sees the last picture…
Birthday #17: The Boys Look The Same Again
By the time the triplets became 17, they gave up their different hair styles. They even went back to the same hair cut and gave up on the hair dye and long hair. The three brothers wanted to look the same again in their annual birthday photo. At this time Peter, Mark and Dennis were still making their way in high school and soon had to make a decision in which direction they wanted to study. Each of them saw a different future for himself…
Birthday #18: New Path Towards The Future
The boys 18th years of life went smoothly. All three brothers completed their high school successfully – and Peter, of course, got excellent grades again. Both Mark and Dennis wanted to continue their studies in sport. Dennis wanted to become a sports masseur and Mark had the ambition to become a teacher. The quieter Peter took a more creative different direction. He wanted to go to university in order to study architecture. Everything was looking good and he was excited to start this new phase of life full of positivity. But this state wouldn’t last long…
Birthday #19: Peter Started Again
After years of feeling good, they had a great time together. Luckily there was someone to help him quickly. This, however, had serious consequences that affected his future. Peter didn’t liked to be alone for a long time and he was seperated from his brothers. It didn’t felt like home anymore. He didn’t dare to be alone too long. Fortunately his sweet brothers came up with a perfect solution…
Birthday #20: The Brothers Moved To Berlin
As their studies meant that all three of them had to live in different places of the country, this wasn’t ideal for the triplets who used to be so close. After all that Peter had been through, he didn’t want to be alone no more. That is why Mark and Dennis, upon their 20th birthday, came up with a solution. Both of them stopped their studies and continued them in Berlin, where Peter lived. They left everything just to be there for their beloved brother Peter – who really needed them around. The triplets were reunited once more! Over the next few years, they had the best years of their lives…
Birthday #21: The Brothers Were Still Together
Peter couldn’t be any happier to have his brothers close to him. They were all still living and studying in Berlin by the time they were turning 21. Yet, nothing could stop them from taking their annual birthday photo. On their birthday, the three happily posed in front of the camera. Though they gave up on wearing matching outfits a long time ago, the usual birthday sign was still there. It was a good year for them, but they never expected life could change so much in the upcoming years.
Birthday #22: The Brothers Long Hair Was Getting Darker
When the triplets turned 22, they were still living in Berlin. They stopped whatever they were doing to pose for another birthday photo. Each of the boy’s hair grew longer and darker this year – though that’s about the only thing different compared to last year. The brothers were happy and still showed their biggest smile for the picture. Little did they know that the next year would again be a tough one. Continue reading on the next page.
Birthday #23: The Brothers Graduated And Went Back Home
2008 was a turbulent year for the triplets. All three had completed their studies by the time they turned 23 – their great goal. But instead of celebrating it with their loved ones, they had bad news heading their way. Sadly, their mom Karin had recently learned that she had a malignant tumor in her intestines. She needed care. Without hesitation, the brothers packed their things and moved back home to take care of their mother.
Birthday #24: The Brothers Still Taking Care Of Their Mom
The brothers were turning 24 in the house they grew up in. They formed a strong team and together they took care of their mom. It was a time of ups and downs. Later on, Peter’s girlfriend Suzan, also moved in and the four of them shared care. In the meanwhile, the brothers continued sticking with the tradition their mom once started and posed for their 24th birthday photo.
Birthday #25: Smiles And Hugs
Despite the illness, Karin and her sons were close to each other and hoped for the best. It probably wasn’t even much about caring for their beloved mom – more about just being there for her and telling her that she is not alone. After all, she was always there for her three sons and now it was time for them to help her. By the time their 25th birthday came around, they were all still living in the same house they spent so many years growing up in. Eventually, the brother’s birthday photo was full of smiles and brotherly hugs.
Birthday #26: Long Hair
When the brothers turned 26, Peter, Mark and Dennis all had long hair. While Peter was rocking a ponytail, Mark had curly locks almost down to his chin. One thing remained constant, though, the brothers took their birthday sign and snapped a picture. Keeping the tradition alive for 26 years now, it is sad to learn why the boys’ 33rd birthday photo became their last. Keep on reading to find out what happened.
Birthday #27: Mom Karin Passed Away
Unfortunately, Karin passed away due to colon cancer in the year her boys turned 27. The brothers inherited the house and decided to live there all together. The house was perfect for the three of them – and besides that, they loved the memories they shared there. That same year, Peter and Suzan also found out they were pregnant. They couldn’t be any happier knowing that their baby would grow up in the same house like they did!
Birthday #28: Peter And Suzan’s Child Was Born
On April 23rd, 2013, Peter and Suzan’s son Noah was born. The two parents had one of the most happy moments of their lives. While Peter was enjoying his moment of becoming a father, Mark and Dennis were even more thrilled for becoming uncles for the first time. This exciting event couldn’t stop them from taking their 28th birthday picture, holding the famous sign and smiling to the camera. So what did make them stop taking pictures after their 33rd birthday?
Birthday #29: The Brothers Got Used To The Routine
Do you see how the three change more and more? By the time the brothers turned 29 years old, they were getting into a bit of a routine. After Peter became a father, and Mark and Dennis uncles, and they were all working full-time jobs while living in the house they spend their childhood years together. Somehow they still managed to update their birthday sign and pose smiling to the camera. Before they even knew it, the three of them were going to hit another milestone – their 30s.
Birthday #30: Another Milestone
The brothers were turning 30! The three wanted to make a special celebration by throwing a huge party. Though it wasn’t only because the triplets hit the milestone for their 30th birthday photo – also to celebrate Peter’s marriage. They invited all of their family and close friends, and made it a day to remember and cherish. Peter was the first of the three to get married. With his beautiful bride Suzan he was ready for his future. Unfortunately, he couldn’t enjoy this for long…
Birthday #31: Bright Future Ahead
By the time the three brothers turned 31, they were looking forward to their futures. They still lived together in the same house, had a lovely baby living with them, and great friends surrounded them. On top of that, they had been able to keep up their birthday picture tradition without skipping a year! The boys are in their middle of life. They are happy and satisfied. Their mom would definitely be proud of them, keeping this tradition for so long.
Birthday #32: Happy Together
When the triplets were 32 years old, they were living the best days of their lives. Peter, Mark and Dennis were happy and had their lives on track. So when their birthday came around, the three of them smiled and posed together with the sign their mom had made for them all those years ago. As Peter’s son is getting older, he and Suzan enjoy their family happiness and were just waiting for their second child to be born. Peter just enjoys his life here to the fullest…
Birthday #33: The Last Photo
After all the ups and downs the triplets went through, they were still expecting great things from the future when they turned 33. Just like all the previous birthdays, the three happily held their birthday sign and smiled to the camera – little did they know, that this would be their last photo together… The three brothers wanted to continue the tradition until the end, but for Peter it came much sooner than expected. They stopped taking the pictures after one of them unfortunately passed away. The brothers stopped the tradition, because it would never be the same without Peter.
