Many children don’t really go all the way out for their first Halloween, and often opt for dinosaurs, fairies, or some Avengers superhero.
However, there’s been one exception, and her name is Jalayne Sutherland. It was her first Halloween and she decided to go a different route by dressing up as Queen Elizabeth II. And, much to her parents’ surprise, she got a royal response from the Queen herself!
Halloween: a rite of passage in a child’s life
As fun and big birthdays and Christmas holidays are, the biggest holiday of the year is still Halloween on the 31st of October. And, for many children, this is a special occasion as they can eat as much candy as possible!
And, what’s even better, on this day, kids get to eat as much candy as possible!
But, the main part is that the young children get to dress up as their favorite characters, such as their favorite superhero. Except, 1-year-old Jalayne Sutherland decided to raise the bar for her first Halloween, with the help of her parents.
Instead of choosing characters from ‘Paw Petrol’, Jalayne dressed up as Queen Elizabeth II
As can be seen on the photos, her outfit was pretty much detailed. She wore a sky blue peacoat with a matching hat, and even the white gloves! It was, of course, combined with a white wig and the famous set of pearls.
Jalayne even posed with two Corgis – which are the Queen’s most beloved animals
And, of course, this being Jalayne’s first Halloween, and the fact that she looked absolutely adorable dressed as the Queen, her parents took a few photos of her, and decided to send them to the Queen at the Buckingham Palace.
Surprise! The Queen wrote back to the family
Actually, it wasn’t the Queen herself, but it was the Queen’s Lady-in-Waiting (the Hon, Mary Morrison) who had written back. The Lady-in-Waiting is a noblewoman, whose duties resemble to those of an assistant.
The family couldn’t believe that they had actually gotten a letter back
The reply began with: “The Queen wishes me to write and thank you for your letter, and for the photograph you thoughtfully enclosed.”
“Her Majesty thought it kind of you to write to her, and The Queen was pleased to see the photograph of your daughter, Jalayne, in her splendid outfit.”
As you may know, impressing the Queen could be quite a task
According to The Telegraph, the Queen receives 300 letters per day, which is nearly 110,000 letters over the year! So, you can say that Jalayne getting a letter, is quite special and remarkable.
The Lady-in-Waiting also passed along well wishes from the Queen
“Her Majesty hopes you all have a very Merry Christmas, and I am enclosing a little information about the Royal Pets, which Jalayne might like to have,” the letter continued
Ever since this letter was made public, Jalayne’s Halloween costume has gone viral and has been hitting the headlines all over the world
Facebook user Amelie Packer posted: “I’m in the UK and this was on our national news television last night, and it did make me laugh.” “With all the doom and gloom on the news re covid at the moment[sic] this was such a lovely story. So cute.”
But, the real question is: What will Jalayne dress up as next year?
Perhaps she’ll continue with the royal theme and dress up as a little Kate Middleton, or perhaps even Lady Diana? Whatever she may choose, we can’t wait to see her costume!
