A Clogged Toilet Is Always Inconvenient But With These Tips, You Fixed It In No Time

Just imagine: you’ve to go to the toilet. Once you arrive, there’s a large puddle of water around the toilet and water is flowing from the toilet bowl. What to do now? You can call a plumber, but you can also do it yourself. Of course, you can run to the store to buy a toilet plunger, but there are much faster and cheaper solutions.

Clothes Hanger
Is the obstruction not too deep, but you can’t reach it with a plunger? Then use a metal clothes hanger. So the question is: what to do? This tip works as follows: pull the hanger apart and wrap one of the points in a cloth, so you won’t damage the toilet bowl. Try to use the clothes hanger to either push the obstructions through or pull it out. Do this by making pushing and pulling motions.

Warning: This Trick Can Make the Toilet Even Dirtier, Messier, and Wetter Than It Already Is

Plastic Bottle
Another option is to remove the obstruction by applying extra pressure with a lot of water. You start by scooping as much water from the toilet bowl as possible and putting it in a bucket or other large bowl. Then, fill up a plastic bottle with warm water, place your thumb over the opening of the bottleneck and place this part into the drain of the toilet bowl. Once you’ve placed it near the obstruction, you remove your thumb from the opening and squeeze the bottle until it’s empty.

Baking soda & vinegar
The acid of natural vinegar and baking soda react intensely when put together, causing carbon dioxide to be released and that’s exactly what’s needed to unclog a toilet. What should you do? Mix a cup of baking soda with half a bottle white vinegar. Stir the mix for a few minutes, then leave it to soak for 10 minutes and pour 3 liters of hot water into the toilet. Leave this mixture to soak for a night and the day after, the obstruction will be gone.

Using Hot Water Is the Most Natural Way To Unclog Your Toilet

Hot Water
You can also try to unclog your toilet with hot water, but there’s a good chance you will have to repeat the process multiple times. The faster you can use the toilet again, the better. Right? The question is: what do you need to do? Well, fill a bucket (2 liters) with hot water and pour this, with a little bit of force, into the toilet bowl. Another thing: this tip works with everything that’s clogged. Think of: the shower, bath, kitchen drain, and that of the sink.

Shampoo & Hot Water
For this tip, you need hot water and some liquid hand soap, shampoo, or shower gel works too. First look for shampoo, because there’s a bigger chance that this product will work better as an unblocker. Pour a considerable amount into the toilet, fill up a bucket with hot water, and pour the bucket into the toilet bowl. Make sure to create a lot of pressure, because this will increase your chances to unclog the toilet.

Note: the Water Should be Hot, but Not Boiling Hot. Toilets Are Made of Porcelain or Ceramic and Can Break at High Temperatures

Dish Soap & Hot Water
Put a few drops of dish soap in the toilet, after this pour a bucket of hot water into it. Pour the bucket at a height of around 1 meter. By pouring the water into the toilet from that height, you cause additional water pressure, allowing the obstruction to flush away more easily.

Plastic Wrap
If the toilet plunger doesn’t work, maybe it’s time to try this next technique to unclog your toilet. Use plastic wrap to fully cover the top of the toilet bowl, then flush. When the plastic starts to bubble up, firmly push the air down to create enough force to unclog the pipe. This neat little trick is much more convenient and a lot cheaper than urgently calling in a plumber in the middle of the night.

toilet brush in toilet bowl
Push Up and Down Once Your Reached the Blockage

Toilet or Dishwashing Brush
For this tip, you need to grab the toilet or dishwashing brush and push it with the bristles down, into the toilet drain. Move the brush up and down vigorously- a few times – once you reached the obstruction. If it works the blockage will come loose if it doesn’t, keep pumping up and down until it does.

Chemical Drain Cleaner
Most people will take this product first, but if you are a more “natural” user, there are many more options for use. If you want an effective and fast solution, a chemical drain cleaner is a great option. You can buy it at the supermarket, but also at hardware stores or home improvement stores. After you buy it, read and follow the instructions carefully.

Glass pot with DIY toilet bombs
Forget About Store-bought Unblockers; Make Your Own

Toilet Unclog (Bath) Bomb
Forget about store-bought unblockers; from now on only use your homemade toilet unblock (bath) bomb. This is how you make them: mix 2 cups of baking soda with a quarter cup of Epsom salt and 8 to 10 tablespoons dish soap. Pour this into a muffin baking tray or something similar and let it dry overnight. When it’s hard you can place one in the toilet bowl, pour a bucket of (hot) water into the toilet and let it soak for a few hours.

Vacuum
Another great tip for people in a hurry is renting a wet/dry vacuum from a (local) hardware store. Follow this step-by-step plan: empty the toilet bowl with the vacuum, wrap an old cloth over the hose, push it a few inches into the toilet drain, put on the vacuum, and if all goes well the blockage should break loose now. Quick note: don’t be stubborn and try to do this with your vacuum cleaner, it can’t withstand water.

unclogging the toilet with a auger's cable/ snake
Much Better Than a Real Snake in the Toilet Bowl, Am I Right?

Snake
First, you need to rent one at the (local) hardware store, then put some rubber gloves on and put an empty (big) bucket next to the toilet. Insert the cable into the toilet bowl – aiming for the drain – release the cable into the drain, push until you can’t go further: you just reached the blockage. Pull the blockage and remove it from the toilet bowl, into the bucket next to you.

Enzyme Product
Chances are that you heard of this tip, but enzyme waste removal products are great for unclogging a toilet. This is what you should do: just pour the recommended – please read the instructions on the back of the product carefully – amount of the product into the toilet bowl, let it soak (overnight), the toilet drain should work once the enzymes are done with removing the clog. You can buy this product at your (local) home improvement store or aisle.

Call a Plumber for Big Blockages

Cola
Cola isn’t just great to drink, but also practical as a toilet plunger & detergent. What you should do? Pour around 500 to 600 ml of cola into the toilet. Wait for a few hours, after this: flush away!

Call the Plumber
What if all of this doesn’t work? Then call a plumber. If you try for too long, you’ll do more damage than just clogging your toilet. Additionally, you should know that these tips mainly work well for smaller and lighter obstructions. Large obstructions should be handled by professionals, this way you’ll avoid problems, such as water and mold damage and other sewer problems.
