Oprah Her House
Oprah Winfrey is America’s number one television presenter. She now has a net worth of $3.1 billion…. Unbelievable! Oprah is much featured in the media, but prefers to keep outsiders at arm’s length when it comes to her private life. Still, everyone is furiously curious about her beautiful home. Because, if you would believe the rumors, your mouth would almost fall open with amazement. We had the opportunity to share some images of the house(s) with you. Let’s take a look at the next page….
A House In Montecito
Fallen in Love With The House
For years Oprah has been one of the greatest. She has now been in the media business for almost 50 years. In 2001, she was ready to invest in properties. Then something came along that caught her eye right away. She was invited to at a certain party in a beautiful house in Montecito. The stunning shapes and beauty of the house made her fall in love with it instantly. She had to be able to get this house for herself…
A Bold Step
After asking around a bit, Oprah found out than the house was owned by Robert Veloz. Veloz was a major player in the production of aerospace equipment. According to him, the house was not for sale. Oprah did not leave it at that and took a bold step and offered Robert $52 million. At that time, this was a huge offer for a house. The offer was accepted and Oprah got the extremely extraordinary house….
The gigantic house was built in 1912. At the time, it maintained the popular Georgian style. The entire complex consists of approximately 23,000 square feet. Unbelievable. The mansion in its current form was completed in 1959, and is worth about $88 million today. Oprah, of course, wants to make it all her own – so a huge amount of time and effort goes into that. After all, the complex boasts a huge number of rooms, all of which need to be repainted, redecorated and so on.
Oprah’s magnificent complex was now finally in her hands. But surely, such a land house needed an appropriate name. After much thought, Oprah considered the name Tara II – since this reminded her of the movie Gone With The Wind. Her boyfriend Bob Greene disagreed and felt that this name undercut the house. In the end, Bob drew inspiration from the Bible and suggested “Promised Land”. Oprah didn’t have to hesitate for a moment and knew: this is it!
Making It Her Own
Now that Oprah finally had the beautiful property in her hands, it was time to make a plan. It was going to be an extensive project to make it her dream home. The style queen wanted to implement her style appropriately in the grand complex at all costs. This, of course, she did not do alone. She enlisted the help of designers Andrew Walker and David Simmons. They were the masterminds behind most of the home’s interior design.
She Remains Normal
After the complete makeover, it is immediately apparent that Oprah’s style has been fully integrated into the home. For example, look at the banister of the staircase, with all its beautiful shapes and twists. The color of the wall and the lamps also fit well with Oprah’s taste. Despite making millions, Oprah remains a normal person. This is reflected in the photos of friends and family she has at the main entrance of her beautiful home.
The Reading Room
Oprah’s reading room was thoughtfully designed. The huge book collection of her favorite books forms the back wall of the room. In addition to the back wall, she thought carefully about how she wanted to further decorate this room. For example, the doll on the couch represents progress – both socially and personally. For example, when Oprah used to be younger, she hardly had any toys, not to mention in her skin tone.
The guest room is certainly no punishment for sleeping either. There are several large bouquets of flowers that make the room smell wonderfully fresh. In addition, there is a beautiful fireplace that provides atmosphere and warmth to the house. The atmosphere is enhanced by the use of lilac and other lavender colors. This room is by far the only one in the house that has implemented such a specific style.
The Living Room
Not two of Oprah’s rooms are the same. The color schemes, styles and patterns vary greatly. That’s something that makes her home so unique. In her living room, Oprah and her stylists chose a fresh shade of green in a chequered pattern. The pillows on the sofa are silky soft and covered with peonies and daisies for the natural touch. But of course this is not the only living room is the beautiful mansion.
The Second Living Room
According to Oprah, this room is also great to use as a living room. She herself can often be found here when she is relaxing or when a friend comes to visit. This room contains a lot of frills, decor pieces and different types of fabrics. By combining all the different items, Oprah’s dream has come true. This way she can play well with all her design dreams and tries to vary more and more. Especially in this room.
A Giant Walk-In Closet
For many a woman, this is and will remain a dream they will cherish forever. A giant walk-in closet. The closet is made of high quality oak, which immediately gives the room a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The clothes are sorted by color, just like her shoes. At least we know for sure that Oprah is not short of clothes. The photo we see now seems to be just a glimpse of the closet. We are very curious to see what the other parts look like…
In a beautiful home, good cooking is done. Oprah knows how to do that with this modern, bright kitchen. Like the rest of the house, you can see that a touch of Oprah has been put into the kitchen as well. For example, she chose to leave out the practicality of the fireplace so that more people could come and sit at her “bar”. The decorations, too, are once again all in Oprah’s style. Neat, yet fun.
The Dining Room
Oprah’s dining room fits the house tremendously well. It is stylish, but also gives a movie-like atmosphere. The oval table is covered in high gloss, which creates a chic space. The candlesticks on the table add a little playfulness. Also the beautiful carpet and the nice wallpaper create a warm, pleasant atmosphere in the room. The little plant on the table should provide a fresh touch to the whole of brown, cream and red colors.
The Tea Room
Name a type of room and Oprah has it in her mansion. So does a tea room. The tea room is designed for relaxing and enjoying the garden. For this reason, there is no digital device to be found in this room. The colors cream and green are central here as well as the beautiful view. Again, there is a beautiful bouquet on the table. The French doors connect this room with the garden, so you really experience the feeling of nature.
Outside the tearoom is the access to the sprawling garden. A traditional staircase leads from a framework dripping with purple wisteria to a small fountain. Surrounded by roses, lilies, daffodils and more. This is a place Oprah loves to visit, not only because of the beautiful view, but also because of the wonderful smells of all the beautiful flowers. And we understand that, because we would love nothing more than to walk around this beautiful garden.
She has prefixed the Biblical name of her home in one of the garden’s paths. This one is called Hallelujah Lane. The path is tremendously quiet and creates a peaceful feeling. On the path in a corner is this white Greco-Roman statue surrounded by white hydrangea bushes. For Oprah, this is a tribute to her grandmother. This remarkable woman raised her in her home in Mississippi. When Oprah walks through this garden she often thinks of her.
Statues Of 4 Woman
A special feature in the garden is this $3.1 million bronze statue: called ”A group of standing women”. The four women stand guard under a grove of eucalyptus, palm and pine trees, each representing a stage in femininity: a teenage girl, an expectant mother, a middle-aged woman, and an older woman. According to many, this image fits well with Oprah, who she is, and what she wants to portray.
12 Oak Trees
Immense oak trees with endless branches can be found throughout Oprah’s garden. The 12 trees, or the 12 apostles according to Oprah give her a great sense of peace. She often goes to the garden to walk and look at the various beautiful trees. The inner peace radiates from it. So a good walk along, or a nice picnic under the trees will be wonderful. We are very curious to see whether more of these beautiful trees will be planted.
Never a Dull Moment
The enormously wide-open property is perfect for truly relaxing. There are a huge number of different rooms, as well as spots in the garden that can make you feel completely at peace. Oprah says that sometimes she barely turns on the television when she is at home. She just enjoys the space in and around her house and can dream away while she is still awake. And especially in the company of her lovely dogs.
A Penny in The Guestroom
This is another guest room in the beautiful Promised Land house. A notable decoration piece in this guest room is a large Penny on the wall. A real eye-catcher. Andrew Walker and David Simmons found this masterful relief of Lincoln’s head during an antique sale. They quickly knew this was something Oprah would absolutely love, so they decided to take it with them. And they were absolutely right. Oprah loved it and had the rest of the room decorated based on this particular Penny.
Expansion of Promised Land
After Oprah moved into her Promised Land home, she quickly developed a good relationship with her neighbors. She especially got along well with the across the street neighbors. Unfortunately, her neighbor passed away in 2016. The family of that woman hoped that Oprah would be able to buy the house. And she did! For a sum of $28.9 million. The unique home was a perfect addition to her already beautiful Promised Land. A wonderful step in our opinion.
The House Seamair Farm
The house that Oprah had purchased came from the well-known architect Cliff May. It was called Seamair Farm. The complex has an area of 4750 square meters. It is mainly built in the ranch style, but also definitely has mid-modern beauty. The addition of Promised Land has 5 bedrooms and even 4 bathrooms. On the beautiful wide expanse of land there is even a real avocado forest, a well-stocked orchard of various fruit trees and a soothing Japanese pond with Koi carp.
A Real Ranch
The beautiful Seamair Farm used to be used primarily as a horse racing track. Today, several equestrian zones are still available where guests can ride their horses. Stables are also available, of course. Seamair Fair is a wonderful addition to Promised Land. For Oprah, this more compact mansion was a huge challenge. It allowed her to give free rein to her creativity. The property also has two natural wells, which would be important for her soon.
Abundance and Drought
Oprah loves to get busy in her vegetable garden. She grows many different types of produce and tries to enjoy everything fresh in her garden. However, in recent years there has been a huge water shortage throughout California. Seamair Farm has 2 wells, so Oprah was basically fine. But when the drought in California ended, the problems in the area were far from over. She was sure she wanted to do something about this.
In 2018, Oprah’s worst nightmare came true. Montecito seemed to be under attack by terrible mudslides. Oprah woke up just before 4 a.m. to her dog barking loudly. Huge thunderstorms, and hail came from the sky. Her neighbors’ houses were completely damaged. Mud crawled onto her property and stretched as far as Highway 101. Unable to leave, she called a known friend, another Montecito resident.
Facetime With Ellen DeGenerous
The famous friend she called was Ellen DeGeneres. Oprah Facetimed her during the program and showed what a terrible wreck her yard was. There was absolutely no limit to the damage either… During her Facetime call, Oprah also expressed her gratitude to the firefighters and rescue teams. Compared to the houses of the other neighbors, Oprah got away with it a lot better. Fortunately she has several houses, so she was able to stay there.
The Colorado Mountain Lodge
As previously mentioned, Oprah has multiple homes. After the disaster at Promised Land, Oprah decided to move to the fantastic mountain home in Colorado. Here she has a home of 60 hectares. She bought it fully furnished. The house has 5 bedrooms, over 6 bathrooms and a beautiful indoor hot tub. If she wants to relax for a while, Oprah can easily watch a movie in the home cinema. She also doesn’t have to park her cars in the rain. In the garage there is room for as many as 3 cars. The smart home theme is well carried through in the presenter’s home.
Oprah is a woman of the world. And so the striking television personality and talk show queen also has a beautiful home in Hawaii. The gray house in Maui Oprah once considered tearing down. Fortunately for her, she did not do it. Instead, Bob Greene advised her to buy land in Hawaii. And so it happened. She also enlisted the help of a designer and architect to renovate the house. The result is a beautiful 21st-century farmhouse.
Also in Washington, Oprah is provided with a beautiful complex on Orcas Island. This is located northwest of Washington State. The property has a whopping 40 acres of land. Built in 2007, it features 3 different floors, each with its own theme. Oprah enjoys watching the sunset along the 2.000 feet of coastline here. And afterwards she can sleep comfortably in one of the four bedrooms…. What a life!
Appartement in Fisher Island
But it doesn’t stop here. Oprah also once owned a beautiful apartment in Florida on Fisher Island. Here was everything possible according to various sources. Several animals, including peacocks, were on the loose. The house really looked like a typical movie star mansion. The apartment was not as big as her previous houses, but with 1838 square meters – 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms it was a lovely place to stay. The house was sold in 2008 for over $2 million.
A Farm in Indiana
Indiana can also add Oprah to her list. From 1988 to 2004 she had a beautiful farm here, again with lots of land. The main residence was beautifully spacious and furnished completely to Oprah’s taste. The house also had a beautiful swimming pool, to cool off in, and a private orchard where they kept several kinds of fruit trees. In 2003, the farmhouse was put up for sale for $8.5 million by Koenig & Strey’s broker Jane Field.
More Houses She Has Lived In…
As it turned out, Oprah loves to make different homes her own. But again, it doesn’t stop there. Also a house of over $68 million in New Jersey, a tropical vacation home of unknown value on the island of Antigua and a wooden cabin of $8.2 million in the rainforest of Orcas Island were passed. That Oprah is a woman of the world we already knew, but that she loves living in different places is now confirmed.
Queen of Charity
Oprah may have bought a huge number of houses, but that doesn’t take away from how much she does for charity. She even has her own foundation called Oprah Winfrey Foundation. With this, she has given away $40 million in various types of funds. Winfrey is now the most charitable celebrity and beats her competition by a wide margin. At least Oprah’s heart is in the right place and we hope she continues to do so.
